Acrylic Painting: An Individualized Approach

With an emphasis on individuality and creativity, this acrylic painting class welcomes all skill levels. Some concepts we will explore include various paint application techniques, color theory, and composition. Within these basic parameters, we will approach the process of painting as a means of self-expression and discovery. This open method of teaching allows the student to repeat the class as often as desired for continued growth and proficiency. Instructor: Elizabeth Hall.

Tuesday mornings from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm, Oct. 8, 15, 22, 29. Classes will be held in our upstairs studio at 205 E. Main St., Front Royal, Virginia.

Class fee: $175 per person. Materials are not included.

Recommended Materials List:
Acrylic paints in these colors:
Blue - ultramarine 
Orange - cadmium 
Purple - dioxazine
Burnt sienna  
Alizarin crimson
Permanent green light 
Titanium white - large size


And at least one each of the following colors:
Red - cadmium or vermilion 
Cool blue - cerulean, phthalo, cobalt, or cyan
Yellow - cadmium, lemon, or ochre
Green - phthalo or viridian

Brushes: Various sizes - round, flat, bright, filbert
Palette: disposable sheets or plastic
Optional: gel medium and/or retarder 
Canvas: various sizes
Spray bottle 

About the instructor: Elizabeth Hall began working as a commissioned portrait artist while still in high school, and later, through study abroad programs in France and Italy, she studied classical painting, figure drawing, and printmaking, in addition to traveling studio work in eastern Europe and central America. Holding a BA in painting and drawing from Meredith College, and an MFA in painting from East Carolina University, Ms. Hall has exhibited nationally and internationally and served on the faculty of college and university art departments teaching a diversity of courses including Art History, Design, Drawing, and Painting. Elizabeth and her husband co-run SporaStudios: Integrated Arts for the Earth, Body, and Mind, offering lessons in art, music, herbalism, and permaculture in Front Royal.

Class policies: We understand that scheduling conflicts do happen. You may cancel your class for a full refund up to 48 hours before the first class, by phone or in person. No refunds will be issued after this time.
